My favorite from this issue is Misti Rainwater-Lite’s “The Coolest Cake Decorator in the Fucking World”. It is both vaguely absurd, human, and strangely sad. When I want to read a love poem, this is what I’m looking for-- something that’s not about the lover’s heavenly skin through the speaker’s pure, sparkling eyes, but instead exceptions, tranny hooker gift certificates for birthdays, and PEZ dispensers. The poem feels real, whether or not it’s memoir, and despite the off-color humor, it’s touching, too. Check the poem out.
